This anti-scale system works on the basis of an ion exchanger, resin layer and salt. The magnesium and minerals in the water are first charged and then flow through a resin layer into the water softener. This resin layer filters the magnesium and minerals from the water, before a reaction can take place, which causes limescale.

The resin only allows soft water to pass through. This means that the minerals (including calcium) and magnesium are replaced by Sodium in the water which is let through. The Sodium released into the tap water is released by the salt with which the resin layer is rinsed. When the resin is fully saturated, the machine will clean the resin with salt, which will also allow sodium to be released into the water. The waste or rinse water is then flushed out to the sewer. This process is automatic with the Digisoft water softener. This process can also be set digitally on the device.
